Beauty Sleeping started out as a blog about beauty products and cosmetics. I was going to go through my ridiculously massive stash of products and review one item every day. I did this for a good few posts and then noticed something. Not only was no one really reading my reviews, but I wasn’t having fun because I felt compelled to follow my self-inflicted, creativity stifling schedule. So screw that. I decided to start writing about my life. The daily stuff that makes me crazy, makes me laugh, or makes me cry. Sometimes all three at the same time.
After a bit of a learning curve I’ve learned that I really can’t stop writing about beauty products. I wish I could quit you, cosmetics… So I’m going to attempt what may be a foolhardy enterprise: I’m going to try writing about both of the great loves in my life within this one blog. That would be my family (and by ’family’ I’m referring only to my husband and children) and beauty products. There will undoubtedly be some growing pains as I try to figure out how to blend these subjects seamlessly, so please hang in there if you see the glimmer of something worthwhile. This blog may look like a hot mess until I get things just right, but I assure you that I’m probably working somewhere behind the screen, ready to pull my hair out, to try and fix the things that aren’t working. Hell, I may never get it exactly right but I don’t strive for perfection. I strive for happiness. So if I’m happy with it in the end I’ll count it as a success. For your convenience, you can find links to all my reviews and posts about beauty on the ‘Beauty/Press Info’ page.
Who am I as a person, you ask? Well you probably didn’t ask but since you’re reading this I’m going to guess that you give a rat’s ass or are so bored that you might read to the end. I’m an ordinary stay at home mom (read as sleep deprived, highly caffeinated, and in need of a day off) with three young children. My oldest daughter shares her time between my home and my ex-husband’s, so (probably luckily for her) she may not always be making appearances here in my blog. I’m a disabled veteran of the United States Air Force and proud wife to a currently enlisted Technical Sergeant who is deployed to Iraq. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which comes with a huge helping of Excessive Daytime Sleepiness.
As I mentioned before, I’m a self-professed beauty junkie with enough product to keep Pamela Anderson happily spackled for a decade or so. I love beauty products; you might say irrationally and obsessively. I prefer to say that I’m a collector and connoisseur. MAC, Nars, Bobbi Brown, and Makeup Forever are my current favorites, but I also have a fair sprinkling of most major brands sharing space in my train cases.
I try to make my posts entertaining and I write the same way I speak–with a mix of (I hope) humor, sarcasm, and (when around other adult types) foul language. I hope the occasional f-bomb doesn’t offend you, but if so then this blog may not be for you and you can go back to sitting on the couch watching reruns of The 700 Club. Actually, this blog’s not for you at all. It’s for me, and that’s why I reserve the right to use whatever language I please. I think it’s safe to assume there aren’t any 5 year olds reading, so I don’t see any problems in that department.
I hope you enjoy my blog, and I’m sorry it isn’t one of those funny, witty, sharp sort of blogs that everyone else seems to be able to write. I’d like to think I’m an intelligent sort of person but I’m new to this blogging stuff and I’m sure my posts won’t be the most polished you’ve ever read. Hopefully you’ll forgive me for my ordinariness and stick around anyways. If you have any questions about anything at all, please ask away. I’d be more than happy to answer. I hope you’ll leave comments, too. I’d love to have your feedback and suggestions about my blog and how I’m doing. Cheers!
