Not to be confused with Dolce Vita lipstick. We’re talking about the recently released gloss of the same name. I bought this gloss as part of a set that contained the gloss and a Lovejoy/Albatross blush/highlighter duo, but the gloss is now available for purchase all by its lovely self for $24.
Packaging is the standard Nars lipgloss packaging–translucent square tube with their signature rubberized black cap. The black rubberized material on all their products is chic, of course, but I kind of hate it. Yeah, I said it. It collects fingerprints and makeup like babies collect cheerios. It’s hard to keep clean, and that irritates the obsessive compulsive in me. It’s worth putting up with for the consistently excellent quality of their products, fortunately.
So Dolce Vita. I love this gloss. Love, love, love. Dolce Vita lipstick turned orange on me, but the gloss doesn’t have that problem. The shade is absolutely beautiful. A nice medium rose/berry with no shimmer that I think would be universally flattering. The texture isn’t too sticky, but it’s not so thin that it disappears within seconds of application. It’s definitely not as sticky as some Nars glosses–Sweet Dreams and Orgasm come to mind–but it’s not as thin as Chihuahua.
I frequently see people give bad reviews to Nars glosses because of their scent, but I don’t find anything unpleasant about the way Dolce Vita smells. It doesn’t really have a scent at all, which is fine with me. I love some scented glosses (MAC) and others not so much (Lorac Mocktails) but unscented is a safe bet as far as I’m concerned. Nothing to distract me from liking (or not liking, whichever the case may be) the gloss on its own merit.
The bottom line: Dolce Vita has become my everyday staple–it looks great with everything I’ve paired it with so far. I love how versatile it is, and I love how pretty it makes my lips. It’s well on its way to achieving Holy Grail status. It may even be good enough to put on at 2 a.m. when I’m checking in on my other cosmetics. We’ll see…
I too am in love love love with Dolce Vita….the lipstick. Sorry to hear that you didn’t have the success with the lipstick. I’ve never had success with the gloss, although I’ve only had gloss which was released about 7 years ago. Was wondering if you had any other Nar’s gloss to compare? I did not like the consistency of it. Way too heavy and gloppy. Felt like I was coating my lips with a petroleum based goo. I hope they have reformulated to make it as light as their sheer lipsticks. Let me know how this product fairs during the passage of time. I might have to try it again!
